AFW is headed to campus next month with a free 16mm presentation of Woolloomooloo (1978) at the University of Melbourne’s School of Design.
Woolloomooloo (1978) is a collaborative documentary by Denise White, Pat Fiske, and Peter Gailey on the social and historical context of the redevelopment of the Sydney harborside area of Woolloomooloo in the 70s. The documentary recounts the contest of space that involved local and state governments, developing grassroots politics in the form of the Woolloomooloo Residents Action Group, the Builders Laborers Federation (BLF) and the calling for ‘green bans’. A testament to a period of social ferment that casts a rich light on the current urban situation.
16mm projection. Free admission. Introduced by David Nichols, Associate Professor in Urban Planning.
